Real-money gaming startup GetMega, which was formally launched on Sunday (March 14), has raised US$9 million from Accel India, Nexus Ventures Partner and other angel investors in an early-stage funding round to boost their market presence in Indian gaming ecosystem.
The skill-based, real-money gaming startup has been doing business in India for a couple of years now and has 5 million ed s on their roster. Recently 200 YouTube influencers, including comedian Tanmay Bhatt, participated in a week-long campaign in the lead up to the launch.
The startup was founded by two Bangalore-based entrepreneurs Mayank Kumar and Lokesh Jangid, the former owner of Opinio, which was acquired by health and fitness startup Cure Fit. The US$9 million investment is a massive shot in the arm for the company to move closer to their target of acquiring 50 million s by the end of the year.
GetMega offers multiple esports on its platform including carrom, and real-money games like rummy and poker where the s can play with their friends and have the option to turn on their audio and video to recreate a real-life experience. While the application is now active on Android, the company is planning to offer an iOS version pretty soon.
